Iriri Community / Karamoja
About the Iriri Community
The Iriri community, located in Karamoja, northeastern Uganda, has a population of about 13,000 people. The area faces numerous challenges, including poverty, food insecurity, and frequent unrest caused by cattle raiders. The community is predominantly composed of the Karamojong people, who speak Ngakarimojong.
Limited healthcare facilities, coupled with recurring droughts and underdeveloped farming practices, exacerbate the hardships in Iriri. However, the residents and local leaders are eager to collaborate with organizations like ECM to bring spiritual development, improve access to education and healthcare, and strengthen the community's resilience.
