Biriwa Community
About the Biriwa Community
Biriwa is a coastal fishing town in Ghana’s Central Region, with a population of approximately 7,000 people. While fishing remains the backbone of the economy, the community faces challenges such as overfishing, youth unemployment, and inadequate educational and healthcare resources. The people of Biriwa, predominantly Fante speakers, maintain a vibrant culture and strong communal ties. Despite hardships, they are motivated to embrace holistic development and seek collaboration with mission-driven groups like ECM to enhance spiritual life, improve local schools and clinics, and equip the next generation with tools for long-term sustainability.
