Apokori-Maliri Community / Tororo
About the Apokori-Maliri Communities
The Apokori-Maliri communities have a population of about 8,000 and are located in eastern Uganda, in the Tororo district on the border of Uganda and Kenya. ECM's Tororo Hope Center is located in Apokori and services many neighboring communities, including Maliri. The communities, which are characterized by high poverty levels resulting in part from poor farming methods, have several schools and churches, but no suitable healthcare facilities. The community is made up of people from the Iteso and Jopadhola tribes, and the majority language spoken is Dhopadhola. Community leadership is eager to partner with ECM to bring about long-lasting change, both physically and spiritually.
