Joset Wells

Send a Note Start a Campaign

Joset is working on starting a slowly developing ministry to children who have disabilities and their families. Children with disabilities are often cast aside, believed to be cursed or "of the tribe of the snake," marginalized or even injured by misunderstanding communities, and locked up in their homes by fearful families. They have minimal access to knowledgeable educators and healthcare to provide for their specific needs and help them to flourish.

For now, she is working in two areas, Nakifuma and Kito, a slum on the east side of Kampala. Both areas have many children who have disabilities. She is working with about 60 children right now, and every month more are coming. Children are being given access to physiotherapy and occupational therapy, very basic early education, and other needs. Meanwhile, parents are learning important information and skills that will help them to successfully provide for and care for their children. All of this, of course, while continually sharing the good news of hope in Jesus.

Ministry is moving slowly now as Joset is focusing on learning Luganda, the most widely used of the roughly 50 native languages in Uganda. Because most of the children she works with don't attend school, many of them speak little to no English so being able to use Luganda will dramatically increase her effectiveness.

Eventually, Joset and the ECM Uganda hope to partner together to benefit children who have disabilities at each Hope Center in Uganda.
