Merina was born with albinism. She has sadly been through a great deal of trauma. Right after she was born, and after her immediate family found out that she had albinism, her grandmother decided to attempt to change the color of her skin. Merina’s grandmother found some herbs that were considered magical and were supposed to help change Merina’s skin color. Instead, Merina received very severe skin boils, wounds that are still noticeable on her skin today. Merina also has problems with her eye sight.
