Kofi lives with his guardian, Abokomah, who is from the same area. Kofi’s mother is alive but cannot take good care of her little boy. Her husband, Kofi’s father, unexpectedly died when Kofi was an infant. Abokomah loves and cares about Kofi so much, even though she cannot always provide for him, especially when the fishing season is over. Kofi’s guardian does everything she can to make Kofi and her children feel safe and cared for yet they all have to sleep in a one room hut.
