Sharise Riether

Sharise felt called to be a missionary at the age of 12 and over the years, knew she was called to Congo. She is following God’s leading to Congo by showing the love of Christ to families in Kinshasa. 

Kinshasa is a large city with about 17 million people and they are all crammed in really tightly. To put it in perspective, New York City has about half the population with almost 6x the amount of space. One of the reasons it is so crowded is because of the extreme poverty.  There are a few communities that are even considered slums by Congolese standards and Sharise works in one of those slums.   

After learning the language, Lingala, she started praying and looking for where her skills could be used. She knew she wanted to work with young children and God opened a door for her to partner with an existing Congolese ministry, called Tabitha Centers. Tabitha centers offers classes to teach vulnerable women a trade. She started a daycare, called Beautiful Blessings , which offers childcare to the women in these classes. Her goal is to help keep families together and thrive, even in their difficulties, by providing a meal and the love of Christ through this daycare.  

She also has a small group on Saturday mornings for “street" girls, teaching them about the Gospel while providing a meal. She has helped sponsor them in their schooling, so they can stay off the street for longer and hopefully get a job after graduation.
