Irene lives with her single mother in a small one room rental house. Her father died of cancer when she was one year old. Irene's mother has no real job. Sometimes she washes neighbor's clothes or digs in their gardens in order to get just enough money or food to survive. Irene's situation is especially hard because she was born with albinism, so she requires extra items to protect her skin and eyes from the sun. But her mother cannot afford to send her to school, let alone buy extra health items. She has been in and out of school a lot since her mother could not pay the school fees.
