Beatrice is growing up in the slums of Kamwokya with no guardian caring for her. She and her twin sister live with their father, since the mother abandoned them. But the father is a drug addict and doesn't take care of them. He often locks them in the house while he goes gambling. They survive on the kindness of neighbors and strangers. They often live on less than one meal a day. Beatrice had never gone to school before joining ECM.
